The role

  • The plant manager has overall responsibility for all facets of the Manufacturing Operations. The overall purpose of this position is to direct and coordinate all plant activities toward plant and company goals and objectives;
  • Develops and implements manufacturing policies and insures application to the manufacturing operations;
  • Directs all plant functions including manufacturing, Operations Excellence (design engineering, technical services and quality assurance), accounting, materials and human resources;
  • Appraises employee performance and administers salaries. Develops employees through training and motivation. Assures subordinates are constantly improving their knowledge of manufacturing processes and in functional competencies;
  • In conjunction with the site General Manager develops annual objectives for the plant and reviews with staff managers, employees and division personnel periodically;
  • Develops plant budgets and forecasts and assures timely implementation and control. In conjunction with the Latin America Operations General Manager develops strategic plans for the facility, short term and long term;
  • Oversees maintenance of all plant facilities and layouts to assure that the objectives are reached;
  • Works with both development engineering and marketing in new product designs, coordinating customer requirements with manufacturing cost and feasibility;
  • Assures prompt and accurate reporting systems on all aspects of plant operations including inventory, labor, production, shipping and receiving to monitor performance against plant objectives;
  • Conducts union contract negotiations and assures adherence to contractual obligations, maintaining positive relations with the union representatives;
  • Directs plant safety program to minimize accident or injury occurrence and to meet all regulatory standards;
  • Communicates information to employees on the state of the company, and leads the communications efforts of the facility;
  • Represents the company in community and professional activities.

Profile

  • Requires college degree, preferably in engineering / business administration field;
  • Requires an administrative knowledge of accounting, budgeting, forecasting, capital expenditure analysis, and wage and salary administration;
  • Requires a working knowledge of corporate, division and plant policies and procedures;
  • Ten to fifteen years of previous experience in production management is preferred;
  • Experience in methods and good industrial engineering practices is preferred; especially, front-line leadership experience;
  • Experience in labor/management negotiation and grievance procedures is preferred;
  • Knowledge of governmental/utility requirements for the facility is required;
  • Must be fully bilingual (Portuguese/English);
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing Techniques; as well as, EHS-Safety/Environmental compliance experience. Including Just-In-Time / One-Piece Flow / Mixed-Model / Kanban / Minimum Inventory manufacturing;
  • The candidate shall be available to move to Rio de Janeiro if he / she is from other state or city.
